The Begby petroglyphs in Fredrikstad are dated to the Nordic Bronze Age (1800 BCE -500 BCE). This is the largest rock art site located along Oldtidsruta in Østfold.
This site is usually just referred to as Begby, or Begbyfeltene – named after the nearby Begby farm. There are two main groups of petroglyphs at Begby, and these two groups are referred to as Gullskår and Skolefeltet.
The petroglyphs at Begby have recently been painted, so unlike some other sites it is easy spot the figures at Begby. There is a great variety of figures, and as mentioned the site is also quite large. So, there is a lot to see here, and Begby is well worth a visit.
