Archive: Noroff 3d Design & Animation Oblig. 2

My first attempt at a 3d film. Or any kind of film, really. The assignment was to create a “ride film” where the camera “rides” along something through an environment. No characters or anything, since we haven’t started learning about modeling and animating 3d characters yet.

Lunar Voyage

In my ride film the camera follows a steampunk spaceship going from earth to the moon. At the moon, a lunar rover comes out of the spaceship and starts rolling across the surface of the moon. But the rover is too light for the low gravity on the moon and floats off into space.

Below is the initial sketch of the moon voyager spaceship. I simplified a lot, and mostly modeled only using the basic shapes in 3ds Max. Not spending too much time on the models turned out to be a good decision, as the animation, camera work, and rendering gave me a lot of trouble. Learned a lot.
