First mandatory assignment at Noroff was to create a 3d room, or an “architectural visualization”. Most of the examples of previous student work from this assignment were very clean looking bathrooms or kitchens. I wanted to do something showing more personality, and choose to make a 3d render of my bedroom with a view of my computer desk and parts of my bookshelf.
I soon realized why most students choose to do clean looking bathrooms or kitchen for this assignment – because that requires little to no custom textures. What I probably spent most time doing for this assignment was the photographing of texture references for each individual book and film, unwrapping the models and fitting the bitmap textures to them. It was my first time working with the UVW tool, so I learned more about that. And I learned that it’s not smart spending so much time on little details that makes little difference when looking at the whole picture. There was still a lot more to do to this scene, as can be seen from the reference image below. But I ran out of time, and just have to take this project as a lesson and try to start with sometime more simple next time, and only start working on the details after all the basics are in place.
